Improving hepatitis vaccination series completion in patients awaiting liver transplantation
The Journal for Nurse Practitioners Sep 09, 2017
Perez ST, et al. - This quality improvement project was undertaken with an aim to improve hepatitis A and B vaccination rates by 20% in patients listed for liver transplant by improving vaccine tracking, ordering/scheduling practices, out-of-network vaccinations, and flagging electronic health records. Authors identified a discrepancy among patients requiring and completing hepatitis A and B virus vaccination. As per observations, evidence-based interventions seemed improving vaccination completion rates significantly.
- 101 records were audited; 44 patients were vaccine-deficient.
- Improvement in combined vaccine completion rates by 94.6% (44.7%-87.0%) were observed after implementing the educational and health record interventions.
- The results of this study seemed to have implications for improving survival and decreasing complication rates for patients with chronic liver disease.
