Improvements in grip and pinch strength and patient-reported outcomes after anterior cervical discectomy and fusion
Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques Nov 14, 2019
Yoo JS, Ahn J, Mayo BC, et al. - In this prospective, observational study, experts assessed betterment in grip and pinch strength in individuals with or without myelopathy and ascertain patient factors that are predictive of continued postoperative grip strength weakness. Postoperative improvement in grip and pinch strength showed a relation to betterment of pain and disability of the neck and overall quality of health irrespective of the presence of cervical myelopathy. Preoperative grip strength weakness was discovered to be predictive of postoperative grip strength deficiency following anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). This investigation implied the recovery of hand function could be associated with betterment of patient-reported outcomes following ACDF.
