Improvement of kidney function in patients with chronic kidney disease and severe obesity after bariatric surgery: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
Nephrology Aug 15, 2021
Lee Y, Anvari S, Chu MM, et al. - Improved renal function and BMI reduction may be conferred by bariatric surgery in chronic kidney disease (CKD) cases, and such patients may safely receive this procedure as a treatment option.
Obesity may represent both a driver and comorbidity for CKD.
Patients with at least stage 3 CKD and obesity undergoing bariatric surgery were analyzed.
Systematic review and meta-analysis of 19 studies.
Eligible studies were identified from Embase, MEDLINE, CENTRAL.
Bariatric surgery resulted in improved eGFR with a mean difference (MD) of 11.64 mL/min/1.73m 2 and decreased SCr with MD of −0.24 mg/dL following bariatric surgery.
