Improvement of early detection of breast cancer through collaborative multi-country efforts: Observational clinical study

Aribal E, et al. - For the presentation of baseline imaging data and improvement gained following application of practice-specific interventions that were identified during the course of a multicentric multinational research coordinated project, authors conducted a study to collect baseline data regarding type of equipment, number of exams, type and number of biopsy procedures, stage of cancer at detection which included 10 centers in 9 countries, namely, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Costa Rica, Egypt, India, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Slovenia, Turkey, Uganda. Various levels of breast imaging practice in terms of expertise, financial and human resources, infrastructure and awareness were noticed in this study. Lack of skilled personnel, high-quality equipment, and appropriate quality assurance program, were found to be the most common challenges in these centers. High levels of breast cancer awareness and collaboration were successfully done by the project among health care professionals and participating centers. Quality, capability, and expertise in breast imaging were also improved in these centers.
