Improvement in food intolerance resulting from Roux-en-Y gastric bypass after speech therapy intervention in chewing
Obesity Surgery May 19, 2019
Rossi DC, et al. - Given the possible association of inadequate chewing with food intolerance during the postoperative period following gastric bypass, researchers examined subjects undergoing Roux-en-Y gastric bypass who present with food intolerance for chewing before and after speech therapy intervention. They allocated the study population into two groups: the study group, who received speech therapy intervention, and the control group, who did not receive any intervention, in six visits at 7, 15, 30, 60, and 90 days after the initial visit. Outcomes revealed a marked improvement in food acceptance and food intolerance from Roux-en-Y gastric bypass following speech therapy intervention in chewing.
