Improved survival with radiotherapy in hepatocellular carcinoma with major vascular invasion: A propensity-matched analysis of Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database
Cancer Medicine Mar 06, 2019
Lin Q, et al. - From 2004 to 2013, 3181 Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases with major vascular invasion were examined to estimate the survival advantage of radiotherapy (RT) via Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Authors observed a longer median survival time in a radiation-treated group as compared to the control group (7 months vs 3 months) in the overall sample whereas 3 months than the control group (7 months vs 4 months) in a propensity score matching (PSM) cohort. They recorded a better survival rate in the radiation-treated groups than the untreated group. They suggested a survival benefit regardless of race, marital status, and tumor size after PSM with employment of RT.
