Improved survival in simultaneous lung-liver recipients and candidates in the modern era of lung allocation
Journal of Surgical Research Jul 05, 2018
Freischlag K, et al. - Given the use of lung allocation score (LAS), introduced in 2005, in guiding lung allocation including those receiving liver-lung transplantation (LLT), researchers investigated the impact of the LAS on outcomes in LLT. They identified LLT candidates and recipients from the OPTN/United Network for Organ Sharing STAR file from 1988 to 2016. Most analyses of LLT were observed including patients before and after the introduction of the LAS. Before the modern allocation system, LLT candidates and recipients displayed distinct baseline characteristics and worse overall survival. Many factors seemed contributing to recently observed improved outcomes.
