Improved stent expansion with prolonged compared with short balloon inflation: A meta-analysis
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions May 14, 2018
Saad M, et al. - Recent evidence from individual studies suggests that prolonged inflation improves coronary stent expansion even though relatively shorter inflation times are commonly seen in clinical practice, so researchers analyzed data from studies comparing the impact of prolonged vs short inflation times on coronary stent expansion. The effect sizes for continuous variables were estimated using standardized mean difference (SMD). They found that although there were differences in duration and methodology, prolonged stent inflation vs shorter duration stent inflation was shown to be linked to improved expansion. In sensitivity analyses that excluded studies with very prolonged inflation duration or multiple stent balloon inflations, this difference remained significant.
