Importance of metastatic volume in prognostic models to predict survival in newly diagnosed metastatic prostate cancer
World Journal of Urology Nov 28, 2019
Buelens S, De Bleser E, Dhondt B, et al. - A total of 113 individuals with newly diagnosed metastatic hormone-naive prostate cancer (mHNPC) were statistically investigated in order to investigate the prognostic significance of metastatic volume in a contemporary daily practice cohort of people with newly diagnosed mHNPC and to create a pragmatic prognostic model to prognosticate survival for these individuals. Consequently, three prognostic groups were made— a good (no risk factors), intermediate (one risk factor) and poor prognosis group (two risk factors). For the good, intermediate and poor prognosis group, the median OS was not reached. In conclusion, in a daily practice cohort of individuals with newly diagnosed mHNPC, a pragmatic and qualitative prognostic model comprising of three prognostic risk groups for OS was made. Moreover, high-volume mHNPC and abnormal ALP were independent prognostic risk factors involved in the model.
