Importance of baseline heart rate as a predictor of cardiac functional recovery in newly diagnosed heart failure with reduced ejection fraction
Clinical Cardiology May 23, 2018
Valika A, et al. - Given left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) has shown to predict outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF) and left ventricular recovery (LVR) has shown to improve prognosis, researchers tested a hypothesis that guideline-directed medical therapy will predict LVR in patients with HF and reduced LVEF. They compared patients who experienced LVR with those who had persistent left ventricular dysfunction among study participants comprising patients with newly diagnosed HF and an LVEF ≤35%. LVR was defined as an increase in LVEF ≥40%. They found that only a low baseline HR predicted LVR. They also suggested that an increase in the rates of LVR may be seen as a result of early modulation of HR in newly diagnosed HF patients.
