Implementation of non-communicable disease policies: A geopolitical analysis of 151 countries
The Lancet Global Health Dec 19, 2019
Allen LN, et al. - Researchers used the 2015 and 2017 WHO Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) progress monitor reports to estimate aggregate implementation scores for 151 countries, based on their implementation of 18 WHO-recommended NCD policies to evaluate global implementation on the basis of the analysis of multiple geopolitical datasets. Implementation of WHO-recommended NCD policies was rising over time. As suggested by WHO in 2017, on average, countries implemented just below half of the NCD policies. Nutrition-related policies perceived advantages, whilst those correlated to alcohol and physical activity were most inclined to be dropped. Moreover, in high-income countries that invest in healthcare and education, aggregate implementation scores seemed to be greatest.
