Implementation of federal dependent care policies for physician-scientists at leading US medical schools
JAMA Oct 23, 2019
Ormseth CH, et al. - Experts have recommended travel support for the dependents of physician-scientists at medical schools (ie, children, other dependent family members)—including care for dependents left at home while the researcher travels, as well as care for dependents who accompany the researcher for travel—as an important step toward achieving greater gender equity in academic science. Thus, the US government issued regulation in 45 CFR §75.474 in in December 2014. The regulation allows temporary dependent care travel costs to be expensed to federal grants. Given this new regulation, researchers surveyed leading US medical schools to investigate whether institutional policies allow for implementation of this clause.
