Implant survival of constrained acetabular device in primary total hip arthroplasty based on data from the Finnish Arthroplasty Register
Journal of Arthroplasty Aug 23, 2019
Karvonen M, Laaksonen I, Pulkkinen P, et al. - Using the Finnish Arthroplasty Register data, implant survival of the constrained acetabular device in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) was assessed. Researchers included 373 primary THAs with constrained acetabular devices inserted from 2006 to 2017 and a reference group of 1,118 age, sex, and diagnosis matched conventional THAs, formed on a 1:3 basis. The constrained device group had 21 revisions and the reference group had 49 revisions. The constrained device group and the reference group had the 8-year survivorship of 94% and 93%, respectively. Outcomes thereby suggest good survival of the constrained acetabular device in primary THA and support its continued use even in high-risk patients.
