Impacts of geriatric nutritional risk index on prognosis of patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome: Results from an observational cohort study in China

Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Jun 05, 2020

Zhao Q, Zhang TY, Cheng YJ, et al. - Among patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS), researchers determined whether adverse outcomes could be predicted by poor nutritional status. Overall 2,299 patients (mean age: 60.01 ± 8.95 years; 71.8 % male) were enrolled. Employing geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), nutritional status was evaluated. A composite of adverse events, including all-cause death, non-fatal myocardial infarction and any revascularization, was assessed as the primary endpoint. In multivariate Cox analysis, GNRI was shown to be significantly related to primary endpoint, independent of other risk factors. In this study population with NSTE-ACS undergoing PCI, lower GNRI was identified as a significant predictor of adverse prognosis.
