Impact of weight management nutrition interventions on dietary outcomes in children and adolescents with overweight or obesity: A systematic review with meta‐analysis
Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics Dec 10, 2020
Duncanson K, Shrewsbury V, Burrows T, et al. - Researchers conducted this systematic review to examine the influence of the dietary component of weight management interventions on the change in diet in children and adolescents with overweight or obesity. In this review, 109 randomised controlled trials were identified, including 95 that reported at least one statistically significant dietary outcome change and 14 that reported no significant change in diet. Obesity interventions with a dietary component have a modest but sustained effect on lowering total energy intake and improving intakes of particular food groups in children and adolescents with overweight or obesity. High-quality RCTs that are able to detect dietary changes as a primary result are warranted.
