Impact of weight-loss management on children and adolescents with obesity and obstructive sleep apnea
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Apr 29, 2019
Andersen IG, et al. - In this study that included 62 children, researchers examined the impact of weight-loss management on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in obese youth. During obesity treatment, they observed an improvement in OSA. After about 6 months of treatment, they found that the reduction in body mass index standard deviation score was significantly correlated with the decrease in the apnea-hypopnea index. They, therefore, suggested considering obesity treatment among the first-line treatments of OSA in youth affected by overweight or obesity.
