Impact of wait time during a first pediatric emergency room visit on likelihood of revisit in the next year
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Jul 11, 2019
Drouin O, et al. - Researchers examined how the wait time during a first pediatric emergency room visit influence the likelihood of a revisit to the same setting. In this retrospective cohort study, they defined the first visit as no visit in the same emergency department (ED) in the previous 12 months. During the study period, 85,844 ED visits were reported; of these, 36,844 were first visits and fulfilled inclusion/exclusion criteria. Findings revealed an association of shorter wait time with higher likelihood of a revisit to the same ED in the following 12 months. This emphasizes considering the possible concomitant increase in patient volume, in strategies to reduce wait times.
