Impact of vocal fold augmentation and laryngoplasty on dyspnea in patients with glottal incompetence
The Laryngoscope Sep 28, 2017
Dion GR, et al. - The proposition examined during this research was that improved glottal closure via framework surgery or vocal fold augmentation improved the dyspnea symptoms. A prominent reduction was noted in dyspnea following the treatment, in patients with glottic insufficiency and dyspnea prior to intervention to improve glottic closure. Individuals without complaints of dyspnea before the intervention reported variable outcomes with regard to dyspnea symptoms. The data disclosed that vocal fold augmentation (VFA) or medialization laryngoplasty (ML) did not worsen dyspnea symptoms, based on data from the entire cohort. The yielded findings could aid in counselling and/or in the selection of patients considered for procedures to improve glottic closure.
