Head & Neck Apr 20, 2019
Su WWY, et al. - To explore the outcome of varying anatomic sites on advanced stage of and death from oral cancer, authors studied 27,717 oral cancers cases largely from a population-based visual inspection program in Taiwan. They noted the odds ratios of advanced stage of cancer as follows: 2.20 for the tongue, 2.60 for buccal, 2.68 for the floor of the mouth, 2.96 for the hard palate, 6.04 for gingiva, and 10.83 for oropharynx, using lip cancer as a reference. For oral cancer death, the estimated hazard ratios increased from 1.48 in buccal, 1.61 in the tongue, 1.68 in the floor of the mouth, 1.79 in the gingiva, 1.97 in the hard palate, and 2.15 in the oropharynx.
