Head & Neck Jan 22, 2019
Su WWY, et al. - From 2004 to 2009, 27,717 patients mostly from a population-based visual inspection program in Taiwan were studied to assess the influence of anatomic site on advanced stage of and death from oral cancer by using lip cancer as a reference. With this reference, they recorded following odds ratios (95% confidence interval) of advanced stage of cancer: 2.20 for tongue, 2.60 for buccal, 2.68 for floor of mouth, 2.96 for hard palate, 6.04 for gingiva, and 10.83 for oropharynx. Hazard ratios for oral cancer death were 1.48 in buccal, 1.61 in tongue, 1.68 in floor of mouth, 1.79 in gingiva, 1.97 in hard palate, and 2.15 in oropharynx.
