Impact of ursodeoxycholic acid on circulating lipid concentrations: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized placebo-controlled trials
Lipids in Health and Disease Apr 11, 2019
Simental-Mendía LE, et al. - Via searching PubMed-Medline, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases, researchers investigated if ursodeoxycholic acid treatment is an effective lipid-lowering agent. They found that ursodeoxycholic acid reduced total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations without affecting triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the subgroup of patients with primary biliary cirrhosis. According to findings, ursodeoxycholic acid therapy could be linked to significant total cholesterol-lowering, especially in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis. Nevertheless, the variability, the sample size, and the quality of the studies included in this analysis could have influenced these results.
