Impact of uncontrolled hypertension at 3 months after intracerebral hemorrhage
Journal of the American Heart Association May 28, 2021
Biffi A, Teo KC, Castello JP, et al. - Researchers used data from Massachusetts General Hospital (n = 1,305) and the University of Hong Kong (n = 523) to determine the frequency as well as prognostic influence of uncontrolled short‐term hypertension following intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). They observed 1,828 survivors of ICH for a median of 46.2 months. Presence of uncontrolled hypertension at 3 months was evident in >60% of survivors of ICH, with undertreatment accounting for most of the cases. Higher recurrent stroke risk and mortality were observed in relation to 3‐month blood pressure measurements. The risk for uncontrolled hypertension was identified to be the highest among Black, Hispanic, and Asian survivors of ICH as well as in those presenting with severe acute hypertensive response.
