Impact of triglyceride-glucose index on long-term cardiovascular outcomes in patients with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries

Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Aug 06, 2021

Gao S, Ma W, Huang S, et al. - In this investigation involving 1,179 myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) patients, a high triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was independently linked to a poor prognosis after MINOCA. The TyG index should be assessed on a regular basis in MINOCA patients to help with risk stratification and decision-making.

  • During the median follow-up of 41.7 months, patients in the higher tertiles of the TyG index had a significantly higher incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).

  • After multivariate adjustment, an increased TyG index was found to be significantly associated with an increased risk of MACE.

  • With rising tertiles of the TyG index, the adjusted risk of MACE increased as well.

  • The TyG index remained a strong risk factor in both the overall and subgroups of MINOCA patients.

  • Furthermore, the TyG index had a moderate predictive value for MACE.
