Impact of treatment strategies on outcomes in patients with stable coronary artery disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus according to presenting angina severity: A pooled analysis of three federally-funded randomized trials
Atherosclerosis Jun 09, 2018
Mancini GBJ, et al. - Researchers performed a patient-level pooled-analysis of subjects with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus to evaluate the effect of treatment strategies on outcomes in these patients, according to presenting angina severity. They assessed death/myocardial infarction (MI)/stroke, post-randomization revascularization (both over 5 years), and angina control at 1 year among study participants randomized to optimal medical therapy (OMT), percutaneous coronary intervention + OMT, or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) + OMT. They found no impact of presenting angina severity on the superiority of CABG + OMT over other strategies, with respect to 5-year rates of death/MI/stroke and need for post-randomization revascularization. Minimal impact on relative benefits for angina control at 1 year was seen by presenting angina severity.
