Impact of surgery in molecularly-defined low-grade glioma
Neuro-Oncology Sep 14, 2017
Wijnenga MMJ et al. - The current study affirmed maximal resection as first-line treatment for molecularly-defined low-grade glioma.
Methods
228 adults who underwent surgery for supratentorial low-grade gliomas were studied.
Pre-and post-operative tumor volumes were determined.
Results
Complete resection was achieved in 35 patients, and in 54 patients small residual tumor remained.
Post-operative volume was associated with overall survival (HR = 1.01) per cubic cm increase in volume.
The impact of post-operative volume was strong in IDH-mutated astrocytoma patients, in whom very small post-operative volumes negatively affected overall survival.
