Impact of strut thickness and number of crown and connectors on clinical outcomes on patients treated with second-generation drug eluting stent

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Apr 18, 2019

Iannaccone M, et al. - Researchers determined how clinical outcomes of patients treated with second-generation drug eluting stents (DESs) were influenced by struts thickness and the number of crowns and connectors. For this purpose, they identified randomized controlled trials comparing last generation DESs. The rate of target lesion revascularization (TLR) was considered as the primary endpoint, while definite stent thrombosis (ST) was the secondary endpoint. They analyzed a total of 53 studies with 52,006 patients. A positive clinical outcome, including reduced stent thrombosis and target lesion revascularizations, was observed in relation to lower struts thickness and higher numbers of connectors, while a secondary role of the average number of stent crowns was suggested.
