Impact of socioeconomic deprivation on endometrial cancer survival in the North West of England: A prospective database analysis
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dec 11, 2020
Njoku K, Barr CE, Hotchkies L, et al. - In this single centre prospective database study, researchers sought to evaluate the influence of socioeconomic deprivation on endometrial cancer survival. Participants in the study were women with endometrial cancer treated between 2010 and 2015. Five hundred thirty-nine women with median age and BMI of 66 years (IQR 56,73) and 32kg/m2 (IQR 26,39), respectively were involved in the analysis. Women were younger and more obese in the most deprived social group than those in the least deprived group. No differences were observed in endometrial cancer type, stage or grade between social groups. The authors noticed that women with endometrial cancer who were socioeconomically deprived were more likely to experience fatal recurrences. To validate these findings and identify modifiable contributing factors, larger studies are required.
