Impact of smoking on all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events in patients after coronary revascularization with a percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass graft: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Coronary Artery Disease Jul 19, 2019
Ma WQ, et al. - Given the independent value of cigarette smoking as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, researchers sought to determine how it impacts the cardiovascular health of patients after coronary revascularization with a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). They comprehensively searched electronic database through July 2018 for relevant studies and finally collected data from 37 records including 126,901 participants. The analysis suggests an increased likelihood of all-cause mortality in patients after coronary revascularization with PCI or CABG in correlation to cigarette smoking. Findings thereby emphasize the essentiality of smoking cessation for PCI or CABG patients to manage their coronary artery disease.
