Impact of renin-angiotensin system inhibitors on long-term clinical outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction treated with successful percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents: Comparison between STEMI and NSTEMI

Atherosclerosis Dec 03, 2018

Kim YH, et al. – Given the lack of published data on the subject, researchers compared the clinical effect of renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASI) on long-term clinical outcomes between ST-segment elevation (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) following successful percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug eluting stents (DES). Patients with myocardial infarction who underwent PCI with DES and were prescribed RASI were assigned to two groups: the STEMI group (n=14,061) and the NSTEMI group (n=10,899). The occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) was assessed as clinical endpoint. Upon propensity score-matched analysis, two PSM groups were generated. Overall, the investigates noted a more prominent mortality reduction capability of RASI in the STEMI patients vs the NSTEMI patients.
