Impact of radiation therapy on scleroderma and cancer outcomes in scleroderma patients with breast cancer

Shah DJ, et al. - SSc patients who received radiation therapy (RT) for breast cancer were examined for the prevalence of radiation complications and SSc outcomes. In approximately 50% of cases, no evidence of lung or generalized skin disease flare was reported. Data suggested that radiation injury causing local tissue fibrosis was not inevitable in this patient population. Therefore, the use of RT for breast cancer was considered an option based on the informed patient's preference.
