Bremmer DN, et al. - The experts undertook this study to determine the effect of procalcitonin (PCT) guidance on antibiotic utilization for hospitalized adults with exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In the management of COPD exacerbations, using PCT guidance was found to correlate with a decreased total duration of antibiotic therapy and hospital length of stay without negatively impacting hospital readmissions.
