Impact of preoperative left atrial dimension on outcome in patients in sinus rhythm undergoing surgical valve repair for severe mitral regurgitation due to mitral valve prolapse
Cardiology Jun 27, 2019
Szymanski C, et al. - Researchers examined how left atrial (LA) area is associated with mortality in 305 patients in sinus rhythm undergoing mitral valve repair (MVRp) for mitral valve prolapse. Findings suggest the independent predictive value of LA enlargement for long-term mortality after MVRp in these patients. As per the multivariate analysis, LA enlargement >30 cm2 was associated with increased mortality, following adjustment for established outcome predictors including age, symptoms, EuroSCORE, and left ventricular size and function. MVRp should be considered before the LA area exceeds 30 cm2.
