Impact of postoperative weight gain on complications after liver surgery
HPB Nov 09, 2019
Labgaa1 I, Joliat GR, Grass F, et al. - In this retrospective monocentric analysis of consecutive 181 individuals who underwent liver surgery between 2010 and 2016, researchers examined the predictive value of perioperative weight fluctuation in prognosticating complications following liver surgery. In 25 and 87 people, major and overall postoperative complications were stated, respectively. On postoperative weight change (ΔWeight) calculated on day 2, the median ΔWeight was 2.6 Kg. People with major complications exhibited grown ΔWeight of 4.2 Kg vs 2.3 Kg in people without major complications. Multivariable analysis recognized ΔWeight ≥ 3.5 Kg as an independent predictor of major complications. Thus, ΔWeight ≥3.5 Kg was irrespectively related to major complications following liver surgery. The perioperative variation of weight seems like a significant predictor of adverse outcomes following liver surgery.
