Impact of positive vascular margins status after surgical resection of non- metastatic renal cell carcinoma with caval tumour thrombus: a propensity score multicentre study
World Journal of Urology Nov 18, 2021
Vamour N, Gasmi A, Leroy X, et al. - Researchers aimed at ascertaining the impact of positive vascular margins (PVMs) following surgical resection of non-metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombus.
Outcomes of a total of 209 patients, who underwent radical nephrectomy with the removal of IVC tumor thrombus for RCC, were analyzed.
PVMs were identified in 49 (23%) patients.
Per outcomes, risk of local recurrence appeared higher in patients with RCC after nephrectomy with thrombectomy in correlation with the presence of PVMs.
However, the risk of distant metastasis or death appeared unaffected by the presence of PVMs.
