Impact of placenta previa with placenta accreta spectrum disorder on fetal growth
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology Feb 26, 2019
Jauniaux E, et al. - In this multicentre retrospective cohort study of singleton pregnancies, fetal growth was compared between pregnancies complicated by placenta previa, both with and without placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), and pregnancies with just a low-lying placenta. They analyzed singleton pregnancies complicated by placenta previa, both with and without PAS, for which maternal characteristics, ultrasound estimated fetal weight and birthweight were available, and a control group of singleton pregnancies with a low-lying placenta (0.5-2cm from the internal os). Fetal growth for pregnancies with a previa-PAS was not different when compared with placenta previa and low-lying placenta. A placenta previa complicated by PAS was not associated with increased incidence of either SGA or LGA babies when compared to a previa which separated spontaneously at birth. Premature delivery but not impaired fetal growth were noted in correlation with previa-PAS.
