International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Apr 08, 2020
Al-Araifi AK, et al. - In this investigation involving 112 children (aged 2-18 years) who had ventilation tube insertion for the treatment of otitis media with effusion (OME) during 2015-2017 (cases) and 130 children with no history of OME matching for age and gender (control group), researcher examined the effect of pediatric obesity on the prevalence and outcome of OME. In patients with OME vs the control group, obesity is significantly more prevalent. According to this case-control study, pediatric obesity could be correlated with the development of OME. Obese OME patients are also more prone to develop recurrence compared with non-obese patients.
