Impact of paclitaxel-coated balloon vs newer-generation drug-eluting stent on periprocedural myocardial infarction in stable angina patients
Coronary Artery Disease Aug 01, 2018
Her AY, et al. - In propensity-matched patients with stable angina pectoris and single-vessel de novo coronary lesions who underwent treatment with a paclitaxel-coated balloon (PCB) or newer-generation drug-eluting stent (DES), researchers compared the incidence of periprocedural myocardial infarction (PMI). They used propensity score matching to adjust for differences in baseline clinical and angiographic characteristics. A total of 108 patients (PCB: n=54 and DES: n=54) comprised the study cohort. Findings revealed that treatment with a PCB vs a newer-generation DES was related to a significant reduction in the risk of PMI.
