Impact of operator experience and volume on outcomes after complete repair for tetralogy of Fallot
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Mar 20, 2021
Jiang X, Peng B, Liu J, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients undergoing tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) repair in order to determine how individual operator experience affects outcomes after complete repair for TOF. They assessed a total of 1,760 patients with primary diagnosis of TOF who underwent TOF repair by 37 operators from January 2012 to December 2017. Findings revealed improved risk-adjusted outcomes in correlation with increased surgeon experience. Potentially important implications of these results have been suggested for individual training, quality improvement and hospital programs in the context of complete repair for TOF.
