Impact of low tidal volumes during one-lung ventilation: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Evidence based | Aug 29, 2017

El Tahan MR, et al. – Researchers presumed that the use of low tidal volumes (VT) during one–lung ventilation (OLV) provides adequate gas exchange and improves postoperative outcome. In this current study, it was shown that use of low VT during OLV attenuated airway pressure but worsened gas exchange. This strategy appeared to offer lung–protection, without apparently influencing postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) and hospital stay (HLOS).
