Impact of locoregional treatment on prognosis of de novo stage IV breast cancer: A retrospective long-term study of Chinese population
Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation Nov 21, 2018
Wang W, et al. - Researchers assessed the effects of locoregional resection and radiotherapy on the prognosis of 157 Chinese women with stage IV de novo breast cancer (66 [42.0%] underwent surgery and 52 [33.1%] received locoregional radiotherapy) in this retrospective study. According to findings, the patients in the surgery group had longer 5-year overall survival rate and 5-year distant progression-free survival (DPFS) time vs those in the non-surgery group. Patients who received radiotherapy also had significantly longer DPFS. Overall, the authors found that patients could benefit from locoregional surgery and radiotherapy of primary tumor, and suggested performing surgical resection for selected stage IV breast cancer patients.
