Impact of left ventricular hypertrophy on myocardial injury in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
Clinical Research in Cardiology May 23, 2018
Stiermaier T, et al. - Researchers assessed the influence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) on myocardial injury and clinical outcome in a large multicenter ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) population. Using cardiovascular magnetic resonance within 10 days after STEMI, they evaluated left ventricular (LV) mass and parameters of myocardial injury. They used gender-specific cutoff values of indexed LV mass to define LVH (67 g/m2 for men and 61 g/m2 for women). They also carried out 12-month follow-up to determine the rates of major adverse cardiac events (MACE). In STEMI patients, findings demonstrated an association of LVH with more pronounced structural and functional alterations in CMR imaging as an indicator for adverse clinical outcomes in STEMI survivors.
