Impact of intra-operative dexamethasone after scheduled cesarean delivery: A retrospective study
International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia Jul 25, 2019
Nanji JA, et al. - Using electronic medical record data, researchers assessed the impact of routine intra-operative administration of dexamethasone on analgesia and postoperative nausea and vomiting following scheduled cesarean delivery. Based on the receipt of routine care (n=182) or also dexamethasone (n=187) (4 mg), more than 360 patients were analyzed. Time to first opioid use was assessed as the primary outcome. In the context of a multimodal postoperative analgesic regimen, no additional analgesic benefit post-scheduled cesarean delivery was offered by the routine administration of intra-operative intravenous dexamethasone 4 mg.
