Impact of intensity modulated radiation therapy on survival in anal cancer
Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology Jul 25, 2018
Jhaveri J, et al. - Researchers determined the influence of intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) on overall survival in patients treated with chemoradiation (CRT) for anal cancer (AC) in this case-control, propensity score matched analysis of the National Cancer Data Base. This is the largest study to date that addressed this topic. In this study, IMRT based concurrent CRT for non-metastatic AC was found to be related to improved survival, relative to similar patients treated with non-IMRT based therapy. These data might offer additional support for increasing the use of IMRT for patients with AC receiving concurrent CRT.
