Impact of immunotherapy among patients with melanoma brain metastases managed with radiotherapy
Journal of Neuroimmunology Oct 15, 2017
Stokes WA, et al. - This study sheds light on the therapeutic benefit of immunotherapy in combination with radiotherapy in patients with melanoma brain metastases (MBM). As per observations, immunotherapy + radiotherapy affords improved survival in this group of patients.
Methods
- Researchers queried National Cancer Database for patients with MBM and receiving brain radiotherapy.
- Based on the immunotherapy receipt, they classified the patients.
- They determined factors associated with survival via Multivariate Cox regression.
Results
- 185 patients received immunotherapy out of a total of 1287 patients.
- Younger age, academic facility, lower extracranial disease burden, stereotactic radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy were associated with improved survival.
