Impact of hyperlipidemia as a coexisting factor on the prognosis of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss: A propensity score matching analysis
Clinical Otolaryngology Aug 31, 2019
Chen C, Wang M, Wang H, et al. - In order to define the impact of hyperlipidemia as a coexisting factor on the prognosis of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSHL), researchers conducted this prospective, non-randomized study to prospectively analyze data from the lipid-lowering therapy group compared with control group to determine the effects of lipid intervention on the prognosis of sudden hearing loss. Six hundred fifty-three patients with ISSHL who also had hyperlipidemia as coexisting factor were identified from January 2014 to August 2018. Findings sugested that lipid-lowering therapy could improve the curative effect of sudden hearing loss patients combined with hyperlipidemia. A significant difference in the total effective rate of TG Group after lipid intervention was found, indicating that there might be a causal link between TG and sudden hearing loss. A significant difference in the total effective rate between flat audiogram was found, which may suggest that vascular dysfunction caused flat hearing loss more likely.
