Impact of genetic polymorphism in the β2-receptor gene on risk of severe hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Aug 12, 2018
Rokamp KZ, et al. - In this retrospective, observational, noninterventional cohort study, researchers tested the premise that the adrenoceptor β-2 receptor gene (ADRB2) Arg16 variant is associated with severe hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 diabetes. For this investigation, a cohort of 311 consecutive adult patients (age >18 years) with type 1 diabetes for > 1 year was enrolled from November 2011 to May 2013. Particularly in those with less hypoglycemia awareness, genetic polymorphism in ADRB2 was related to the risk of severe hypoglycemia in people with type 1 diabetes.
