Impact of furosemide on mortality and the requirement for renal replacement therapy in acute kidney injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised trials
Annals of Intensive Care Jul 31, 2019
Czempik PF, et al. - By analyzing current evidence from 20 relevant randomised controlled trials, including 2,608 patients, researchers assessed how mortality and the requirement for renal replacement therapy (RRT) in adult patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) are influenced by furosemide treatment. The included studies were identified from PubMed (Medline) and Embase and compared prevention/treatment with furosemide at any stage of AKI with alternative treatment/standard of care/placebo. According to findings, the mortality, as well as the need for RRT, remained unaltered by furosemide. Possibly, furosemide administration is beneficial in patients at risk of contrast-induced nephropathy.
