Impact of exposure to antibiotics during pregnancy and infancy on childhood obesity: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
Obesity Apr 02, 2020
Wan S, Guo M, Zhang T, et al. - Researchers examined whether childhood overweight or obesity is linked with antibiotic exposure during pregnancy and infancy. They searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases from the inception date to April 18, 2019 and identified a total of 23 relevant observational studies involving 1,253,035 participants for inclusion. Findings revealed no significant association of prenatal antibiotic exposure with overweight or obesity in children. However, subgroup analysis of the second trimester indicated an increased risk of overweight or obesity. In contrast, the risk of childhood overweight or obesity may increase in correlation with antibiotic exposure during infancy.
