Impact of diverticular disease on prostate cancer risk among hypertensive men
Prostate Cancer & Prostatic Diseases Oct 12, 2021
Tomer N, Chakravarty D, Ratnani P, et al. - Among men having hypertension, diverticular disease (DD) was found linked with diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa). The earlier the diagnosis of DD, the higher the odds for PCa occurrence, especially in Black men.
Using the Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System database, hypertensive patients with DD (n=51,353) and hypertensive controls (n=111,541) were selected between 1995 and 2010.
PCa occurred in 6.26% of DD and 3.71% of controls, DD was a significant risk factor for PCa (OR: 1.27).
The estimated ORs for PCa were 3.39, 2.12, and 1.20 in patients diagnosed with DD <50 years old, age 50–59, and age 60–69, respectively.
Age and race stratification revealed an OR of 2.56 in White patients <50 and an OR of 3.98 in while black patients <50.
Between these populations, the observed trend in differing odds was the same for age groups 50–59 and 60–69.
