Impact of direct MRI-guided biopsy of the prostate on clinical management
American Journal of Roentgenology Apr 06, 2019
Meermeier NP, et al. - In this investigation, researchers examined the effect of direct MRI-guided biopsy of the prostate on clinical management in practice. For this investigation, they identified 127 subjects with unknown (n = 98) or untreated prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 6 (n = 29) who had direct MRI-guided biopsy of the prostate at the institution between August 2013 and January 2018, after initial multiparametric endorectal MRI examination revealed one or more Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS or PI-RADSv2) category 4 or 5 target lesion. According to this retrospective study, direct MRI-guided biopsy was related to high rates of significant detection of prostate cancer and subsequent definitive treatment across common clinical scenarios and should be considered in an appropriate setting as an important additional diagnostic tool.
